Triple Treat!
Snowmen Gift Boxes

Designed by Jurate Okura
Prep
  1. Basecoat the large box and lid with Nightfall Blue, the medium box and lid with Forest Green, and the small box and lid with Tomato Spice. Apply two coats of color using a foam brush, allowing adequate drying time between each application.
  2. Trace pattern onto tracing paper. Transfer the main pattern lines to the appropriate surface using the transfer paper and the stylus.
Paint
  1. Snowmen. Load the large scruffy with Sandstone, pounce once on paper towels to remove excess paint, and then pounce each snowman section. Using the 3/4" angular shader with Midnight Blue, float shading along the bottom and left sides and along any overlapping edges of each section, beginning with the bottom and working up to the head.
  2. Scarves. Undercoat each scarf with one coat of Sandstone. Base scarves on large box with Forest Green, on medium box with Tomato Spice, and on small box with Nightfall Blue. Base each scarf with two coats of color, allowing adequate drying time between each coat. Apply fringe on each scarf using the liner with the appropriate color. Float shading under the tail end of each scarf using the 3/4" angular shader with Midnight Blue. Float shading between scarf sections, along bottom, and on the fringe edge of each scarf using the 3/4" angular shader with Black Green on green scarves, Candy Bar Brown on the red scarves, and Midnight Blue on the blue scarves. Float highlights along the top of each scarf with a mix of Sandstone + Tomato Spice (3:1) for the red scarves, a mix of Sandstone + Forest Green (3:1) for the green scarves, and a mix of Sandstone + Nightfall Blue (3:1) for the blue scarves. Add fringe highlights on each scarf using the liner with the appropriate highlight mix.
  3. Earmuffs. Use the small scruffy brush to pounce the earmuffs on the large box with Candy Bar Brown, on medium box with Midnight Blue, and on the small box with Black Green. Pounce a few highlights on each earmuff on the large box with Tomato Spice, on the medium box with Forest Green, and on the small box with Nightfall Blue. Dip script liner in Payne’s Grey and apply each band in a single stroke. Repeat with White for snow. Using a small scruffy brush with White, pounce snow on each earmuff.
  4. Noses. Transfer noses and then undercoat with Sandstone. Base each nose with two coats of Poppy Orange, allowing adequate drying time between each coat. Using the 1/2" angular shader, float shading along bottom edge of each nose with Candy Bar Brown and then float highlights along the top of each nose with Pumpkin. Pounce snow on noses using the small scruffy with White.
  5. Eyes, mouths, and buttons. Transfer and then base using the round with Payne’s Grey. Dip tip of liner in Sandstone and dot highlight on each eye.
  6. Arms. Transfer arms and then use the script liner with Candy Bar Brown to apply. Starting at the base of each arm, apply pressure and pull arms, releasing pressure as you reach the tips. Repeat with White to create snow.
  7. Falling snow. Place lids on boxes and spatter each box using the old toothbrush with White.
Finish
Allow all paint to dry thoroughly. Apply three to four coats of varnish, allowing adequate drying time between applications.
