Canisters
  1. Note: Check before you seal or paint the inside portion of the lids to make sure they will still fit properly when painting is done. Sand and seal the canisters. Using the 1" brush, base bottoms and lips on lids with one coat of White. Base tops of lids Black.

Tray

  1. Sand and seal the entire tray. Base the flat, interior section with the 1" brush and two coats of White and let dry.
  2. Cut a piece of tracing paper to fit the interior section of the tray. Using the color photo as a guide, determine the pattern layout for your tray to create the look of tile. Trace and transfer to the tray.

Canisters

  1. Starting at the bottom of each canister, alternately mask off each section with the appropriate-sized tape as follows: 1", 1/4", 3/4", 1/4", and 3/4". Repeat pattern.

  2. Stripes. Remove the first and sixth rows of tape and base these areas Pop Pink. Let dry and repeat. Remove the third and eighth rows of tape and paint base areas OJ. Let dry and repeat. Remove the fifth row of tape and base this area Red. Let dry and repeat. Remove second and seventh rows of tape and carefully base the stripes with Green using the round brush. Let dry and repeat. Remove fourth and ninth rows of tape and carefully paint the stripes with Citrus using the round brush. Let dry and repeat.

  3. Paint the lip of each lid as follows: small, Pop Pink; medium, OJ; large, Red.

  4. Transfer design onto top of lid.

  5. Flower petals. Use the No. 10 filbert on the medium and large lids and the No. 6 filbert on the small lid. Load brush with Pop Pink and tip into White. Starting at the tip of the petal, lay brush down firmly, then pull and lift toward the center. Reload the brush after each stroke. Continue until all petals have been completed.

  6. Flower centers. Base the outside of the flower center with two coats of OJ and let dry. Base the inner circle with two coats of Citrus and let dry.  Line around the outside edge of the OJ circle with the No. 10/0 liner and thinned Red. Add Red dots around the Citrus center circle, and Citrus dots outside the Red line.

  7. Add a thin Black line between each stripe using the No. 10/0 liner.

Tray

  1. Paint the petals Red and alternate the triangles with Citrus and Green.
  2. Add a shadow line of thinned Black at the bottom and/or right side of each element. Highlight the top and left sides of elements as follows: Red with Pop Pink, Green with Gecko, and Citrus with OJ.
  3. Let dry thoroughly and then carefully base the sides of the tray Green. Hint: Apply a coat of varnish to the painted surface of the tray. This way, if you get paint on it, it will wipe up easily.
  4. Mask off the outside of the tray to form the center stripe and base with Red. Let dry, repeat, and remove tape. Use the ruler and pencil to lightly mark 1" intervals around the tray. Paint diagonal lines of Pop Pink all around the tray, and then crisscross them with lines of OJ. Add a thin line of Black at the top and bottom of the stripe. Dot where the lines cross with Citrus. Dot at the top and bottom of the lines with Gecko.
Finish

Finish all surfaces with two to three coats of satin varnish.
