Inside the October 2007 Issue

Express Yourself with Color

Bring a new look to your surroundings with this issue’s vibrant palette of seasonal colors.

Greet family and friends with a cheerful Wooden Welcome Banner, or celebrate the harvest with a primitive “Give Thanks” Signboard.

Terra cotta pots aren’t just for planting anymore! With a little bit of imagination, they can be transformed into so many fun and functional accents. We guarantee you’ll have lots of fun painting them. This issue’s Seasonal Inspirations column features a terra cotta grouping finished with an easy faux finish and a simple border design. Create a candle grouping as featured, or paint a collection of planters for your front porch or a birdbath for your yard. Be sure to customize the colors to suit your décor.

Another fun terra cotta pot project is Monika Brint’s Halloween Clay Pot Bells. This unique holiday decoration is sure to grab attention. (P.S. Watch for Monika’s Christmas version in our December 2007 issue.)

As a follow-up to Reneé Mullins’ Nestled Hearts Candleholder in our April 2007 issue, she has painted a fall-themed Harvest Candleholder, featuring gourds, pumpkins, and a blue salt box dwelling. We know many of you are great fans of Reneé’s designs and will love painting this new piece.

Barb Jones’ Sweet Harvest Home Denim Purse is funky and fashionable for fall. Wouldn’t this design be terrific painted on a pillow, denim shirt, or an outdoor banner? You could even paint it on a spare front door screen!

This issue also features the debut of our Teachers Speak column, offering advice from teachers on various issues pertaining to painting classes and more. Read tips teachers give students on how to get the most from a painting class. From issue to issue, you’ll gain valuable information from those who know best.

Brush up on basics with our Brush Bin column by Jill DiMaria and Maria Grimanis. The October column highlights basecoating techniques and the importance of proper surface preparation.
